The interface is an ABAP program, which is integrated into a handling unit or delivery message. The program runs on the SAP application server and collects information on the delivery or the handling unit, packages it into an XML file and transfers it to the auto-import function of UPS-Worldship.
The following information is passed: Address of the consignee Gross and net weight Reference numbers from the document flow Number of the handling unit Number of packages
The XML file is stored in a directory accessible by UPS Worldship’s auto-import feature.
UPS Worldship accesses the file and performs the following actions:
- Printing the shipping label
- Include the package in the shipping archive
- Closing day
- Send the packages via EDI to UPS
- Update the UPS tracking number to SAP
UPS Worldship provides an XML file containing the UPS tracking number for each package. The UPS tracking number can be determined with an ABAP program and written to the handling unit in SAP.
- Error handling
Failed to import the file. Errors can be incorrect characters or an invalid zip code. In the event of a fault, UPS Worldship returns an XML file. This XML file can be read with an ABAP program and, e.g. Send an email to the responsible agent.
- Several pack stations
If there are several packages, the correct UPS Worldship client must be found according to a defined logic. This logic can be mapped using Customizing and in an ABAP program.
